Is drinking distilled water safe?
05.12.2021 | Mliaoo | Water

Distilled water is an unnatural, man-made invention not actually meant for human consumption. Why? Distillation is a process where boiled water is evaporated and then pure water vapor is condensed. But this water is actually too pure! You see, now it is totally free of the dissolved minerals you’d normally find in natural water. The positive side is that due to this. distilled water is able to absorb toxic substances from your body and eliminate them. This is great on occasion when you're looking to cleanse or detoxify for short periods, no more than a few weeks.

However, the negative side can actually be dangerous because in addition to removing toxins, distilled water will also remove things your body really needs, like electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals such as magnesium. This can cause deficiencies which may lead to heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Also, cooking in distilled water also pulls minerals out of your food, lowering it's nutritional value.

If you really want to drink ultra-pure distilled water, then just add some trace minerals to your water. Some of the most common minerals added are Magnesium, Chloride, Sodium, Potassium, Sulfate, Lithium, Boron. It’s also a good idea to include as many other trace minerals as you can. Try to get a lot of the following trace minerals, too: Calcium, Carbonate, Bromide, Iodine, Rubidium, Scandium, Boron, Phosphorus, Nickel, Manganese, Chromium, Strontium, Cobalt, Zinc, Titanium, Lanthanum, Cerium, Barium, Copper, Iron, Silicon, Yttrium, Molybdenum, Tin, Gallium, Gold, Silver, Cesium, Beryllium, Selenium, Vanadium, Dysprosium, Holmium, Terbium, Praseodymium, Lutetium, Gadolinium, Samarium, Bismuth, Ytterbium, Erbium, Europium, Neodymium, and other minerals found in seawater.

I’ve used Concentrace Trace Mineral Drops before, sourced from Utah’s inland sea at a highly secluded and secure site. But for myself I prefer to get all my delicious, mineral-rich water by eating plenty of fresh, raw, organic produce. These are loaded with pure, alkaline water and plenty of trace minerals. I also use a water ionizer in my kitchen, which raises the pH and filters all my water without affecting the mineral content. These days you can also buy mineral-rich alkaline water just about anywhere. Of course, then you have to deal with the plastic bottles that are one of the biggest sources of pollution on our planet!

On e more thing! The most toxic beverages that in the world are cola beverages and other soft drinks. One f the big reasons for this is that these beverages are actually made from distilled water. These profit-driven companies don’t really want to use distilled water because it adds more cost to their process, but they have to. You see, natural waters from different places all have different mineral content. The water can react with the ingredients in the soft drink recipes creating non-uniform flavors -- and soda companies like Coca Cola can't have that. Hence, they are forced to use distilled water. But one huge reason, among many, why soft drinks are not healthy is the distilled water. Several studies have shown that heavy soft drink consumers dump massive amounts of calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals into their urine --- minerals your body actually needs!

The more your body loses its essential minerals, the higher the risk you get for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, hypothyroidism, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure and many other degenerative diseases associated with premature aging.

That's why WHO (the World Health Organization) wrote a report that had a whole chapter on distilled water, called “Nutrients in Drinking Water” (2005). You can download a copy here:

Again, for short periods, distilled water can help you detoxify. But remember, it's a good idea to add mineral supplements to the water. According to one important medical study, drinking water in North America may contain high levels of calcium, magnesium and sodium which can provide clinically important portions of the recommended dietary intake of these minerals. Since distilled water is devoid of minerals, mineral intake through diet or supplements is needed to maintain good health.

Comparison of the Mineral Content of Tap Water and Bottled Waters

If you really want to cleanse your body without the hazards associated with distilled water, I recommend juicing! Most people have spent decades polluting their bodies and need an extreme approach to getting rid of all the toxins they accumulated. Fresh, raw organic juices loaded with nutrients and enzymes your body really needs are much better for your health and nutrition than distilled water with nothing in it at all. By the way, the problems associated with distilled water due to its lack of minerals also applies to reverse-osmosis water!

Juicing is also great for transitioning to a raw food lifestyle. Fresh, raw juices will help you get the nutrition you desperately need into your body. Always try to make sure your juice is fresh and made in a slow speed masticating juicer like an Omega, Samson or GreenStar Elite. Avoid bottled juices you buy in stores as these are always pasteurized, i.e., cooked and dead.

Just remember, there are many more problems in our lives these days than distilled water. Our sedentary lifestyle, unnatural levels of stress, automobile pollution, excessive sun, cooked/processed food diet, polluted air and water -- to name just a few biggies -- make it important to have a balanced lifestyle and diet with plenty of raw, organic fruts and veggies.
